Mrs. R.

Mrs. R. presented to the EECP® Center of Pittsburgh for her first treatment in March of 2000.  Dating back to 1986, she had been treated medically for coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Between 1992 and 2000, she had a long history of several cardiac catheterizations and multiple coronary stents. Eventually she underwent 2 vessel coronary bypass surgery. In spite of these measures, she suffered several myocardial infractions, the latest in February 2000. Chest pain, unfortunately, was almost a daily occurrence.

In March 2000, Mrs. R. began her first EECP® treatment. She drove to the treatment center daily which wasn’t an easy task. One way was 45 miles.

After 4-5 weeks of treatment, she began to notice a difference. The chest pain had lessened to the point of not requiring nitro for relief. Her energy level increased as her fatigue decreased. Her blood pressure improved. She began to enjoy life again, and return to normal activities with her grandchildren – she even went fishing with her husband – pain free.

Presently, she uses only one nitro per week, when before treatment, she used nitro 3-4 times daily. When asked what she thought of EECP®, she said “I am so thankful that EECP® has decreased my chest pain so much. At times, the pain was so frightening and even debilitating – my future seemed dim. But now, I am able to take care of my home and do things with my family. After being so ill and depressed in 2000, I can now look forward to the future with hope and optimism.”

Mr. H.

Mr. H. presented for EECP® treatments in March 2002. He is 73 years old and had a long standing history of coronary artery disease, insulin dependent diabetes, diabetic neuropathy, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Three months prior to coming for treatment, Mr. H had been unable to sleep in his own bed due to shortness of breath and chest heaviness when lying down. He slept in a chair recliner every night. He also suffered daily with these same night time symptoms, but also had swollen, aching legs. He could not walk far and was unable to wear his normal shoes. He came to us, initially, in slippers.

After the first week of EECP® treatment and some adjustments to his medications, he was able to sleep for the first time in months in his own bed – for eight continuous hours. Mr. H. was overjoyed.

As he continued on with his treatments, he was encouraged to increase his walking distance. He was apprehensive at first, knowing the discomfort he had suffered prior to treatment, with shortness of breath and painful legs. Still, he was willing to put forth the effort and try. He had a treadmill at home and began walking 10 minutes at a time. With medication adjustments and by the end of EECP® treatments, he was able to increase his walking time to 35-45 minutes a day. He was chest pain free, had minimal shortness of breath, was sleeping in his own bed and wearing normal shoes. His wife was especially happy because he could go grocery shopping with her – and even carry the bags.

When asked about his EECP® treatments, Mr. H. said “It’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. I am so very happy about making the trip in every day. It was very worthwhile and I feel it was a miracle.”
